I won’t buy Taschen’s „100 Movies of the 2010s” book because it was printed too early for me.
I wrote this text on the 11th of February, 2022. It was a time when at Taschen’s official website, the „100 Movies of the 2010s” book was still labeled as „NEW.” When I realize that the 2010s finished on the 31st of December, 2021, I must admit that publishing such a book within one year does not make sense. Why? Because the people who prepared and wrote this book could not be objective. I have no doubts that authors, with Jürgen Müller at the Forefront, had to be influenced by film producers, critics, journalists, directors, and actors who were still living. Thus, all these people can have many personal interests in writing about the movie „X” or the film „Y.”
I wrote many times on the www.adammazek.com website that it is a time that can best judge people’s achievements.
I have no doubts that, e.g., in 2040’ some films from the entitled Taschen book will be forgotten. On the other hand, there can be many pearls that did not appear in the book but will be rediscovered in the future. For me, publishing a book about the best movies of the 2010 decade one year after finishing this decade is a bad idea. It was the first time I wrote here, on the www.adammazek.com website, that Taschen made a big mistake. Still, I can recommend, without a shadow of a doubt, other of Taschen’s books about the history of cinematography.
Which ones?
I already read:
– „Horror Cinema” (Paul Duncan, Jürgen Müller);
– „The Stanley Kubrick Archives” (Alison Castle);
– „Movies of the 50s” (Jürgen Müller);
– „Movies of the 70s” (Jürgen Müller).
Moreover, I am still continually reading Taschen’s books such as:
– „Alfred Hitchcock. The Complete Films” (Paul Duncan);
– „The Star Wars Archives: 1977-1983” (Paul Duncan);
– „The Walt Disney Film Archives” (Daniel Kothenschulte);
– „Film Noir” (Paul Duncan, Jürgen Müller);
– „100 All-Time Favorite Movies of the 20th Century” (Jürgen Müller).
While writing all these things, I must admit that I will buy and read the „100 Movies of the 2010s” book, but only the reedition that Taschen will publish in the 2040s.
