Can a book be an artwork? The answer is obvious. Yes, the book can be a work of art.
There are many examples to prove it. I will start from Medieval times, where a lot of versions of the Bible were produced during that time. Of course, these books were entirely made by hands. This fact and the historical circumstances gives to the Medieval versions of the Bible, a priceless value. Many examples and samples of pages of these books you can find in Taschen “The Book of Bibles.”
By the way, did I mention that for me, practically all Taschen books can be valued as a work of art?
I already did it in some of my previous posts. The fact is that Taschen is my favorite publishing house. I merely love to be absorbed by reading and analyzing the content of these works of art. But, is Taschen the only publishing house worth to explore? Of course not! I also love books, which can also be viewed as artworks from other publishers. Which ones? For example, Phaidon, Thames & Hudson, Hatje Cantz, or Polish publishing house Bosz. Can I provide you more examples of books that can be recognized as works of art? Since September 2019, I have been regularly publishing online my “Diaries.”
Both Taschen books and Fyodor Dostoyevski’s self-publishing activity provided me a lot of inspiration to create a personal, lifelong project. I aim to print my “Diaries” (in the future) at the highest possible level. Moreover, I hope those first editions of my printed “Diaries,” will become recognized as works of art. Book undoubtedly can be identified as works of art. One of my artistic aim and approach is to print also a book which will be worldwide known and recognized.
