Let’s delve into the intriguing world of capitalism.
As I sit here, in Warsaw, on the 5th of August, 2023, I find myself contemplating the intricate web of capitalism that we all navigate. One works to earn money. One makes cash in order to spend it. This cycle is the driving force behind capitalism and consumerism. It is undoubtedly a better idea than the communist idea. Still, I unconsciously feel that living for earning should not be my life’s aim. I do not want to devote my existence to increasing wealth. The truth is that I do not see anything wrong with it.
Simultaneously, I do not see anything wrong in spending money. Still, I do not want to be blinded by the money’s glamour.
I do not live to eat in the same way as I do not live to earn and spend money. Street photography, writing, and blogging are a total departure for me from the cycle mentioned at the beginning. I don’t do it to make money. I do it because I want to find something more significant in life beyond making and spending money. Capitalism is not bad, but it could be better.
However, I consider myself fortunate to have only spent four years in communist Poland (I was born in 1985) and the rest of my life (34 years since 1989) in capitalist Poland.
As I age, I become more aware that I was not born to earn and spend money. I have said it before and I will say it again: I vehemently reject mindless consumerism (please remember, my Dear Friend, that consumption is the driving force of capitalism). Money should be a tool for me, not the other way around. It is not just a means to pay bills and buy food. The truth is, without money, there would be no www.adammazek.com blog. I will conclude my thoughts on capitalism.
