I like in my photos the ambiguities and understatements. They can be interpreted in many different ways.
This game with the recipient of photos gives me incredible joy. It is absolute child’s fun for me. I would say that ambiguities are the essence of my artistic activity. Without them, my pictures undoubtedly would be dull. As usual, I am not the first artist who incorporated ambiguities into their photographic portfolio.
Paintings made by Hieronymus Bosch, Salvador Dali, or Zdzislaw Beksinski are works of art that first come to my mind regarding uncertainties.
For me, the impossibility of interpreting artworks in one straightway is one of the most unusual things in art. It inspires me to go out and look for other odd frames in my Warsaw surroundings. Also, I believe that without ambiguities, the skill would not be as crucial for all people as it is today. The fact is that every artwork, every human can interpret on one’s hand. Even if these interpretations do not align with critics’ comments or artists’ statements, they can still bring much fun for everyone. I aim to create such artworks about which one cannot tell anything straightforward. Of course, it is a truly demanding task. I feel that I am still learning to do that.
Moreover, I am convinced that I will be learning about making ambiguous artwork until the end of my life.
To summarize, I want to stress that searching for ambiguities is one of the immense joys I have ever had. I truly recommend you, my Dear Friend, to do the same. Try to create art in an ambivalent, ambiguous way. Play with your audience with the difficult task of making ambiguities for them. How to do all these things? Trust your intuition. I believe that is the key to creating extraordinary works of art.
