Today (I wrote this text on the 13th of December, 2024), I will write a few words about our ancestors.
Undoubtedly, our ancestors have always starved in the cold, and they had to run or walk to chase the animals to eat them (or avoid being attacked by predators). Undoubtedly, our ancestors had to expose their bodies to cold (e.g., while crossing the rivers). Thus, our DNA adapted to all these things. From an evolutionary point of view, our bodies do not differ much from the bodies of the people who lived 200k years ago. In general, they were healthy (we know it, among others, thanks to analyzing their teeth). The truth is that since humanity settled and started farming, many diseases (many of them we call today civilization diseases) appeared among societies.
Eating carbs made our ancestors’ health worse.
I want to be active like people who were living in caves (that’s why I walk and ruck – walk with a heavy load on my back; for today, my record is walking with ~22 kg in my rucksack [49 lbs]). Also, I want to eat something similar to cavemen. That’s why I do not eat regularly (in general, I aim to eat not earlier than 7 p.m.) and try to avoid processed food as much as possible (I am focusing on eating eggs, meat, nuts, and vegetables). Moreover, I do not try to hide my body from the cold. On the contrary, I expose my body to cold temperatures by walking in summer clothes in freezing temperatures and taking cold showers.
I have no doubt that these activities strengthen my immune system.
In general, I haven’t been sick for a long time. I believe there are many things that we can borrow from our primordial ancestors. It does not matter if they fasted, ran, walked, or exposed themselves to cold because they had to. If all these things were disastrous for our health, I would not be able to write this text because the human species would have died a long time ago.
