Another dimension.

July 15, 2025 by Adam Mazek

Proving the existence of another dimension would be a powerful transformation of perspective, comparable to the shift that occurred in the 18th century when it was discovered that there is more than one galaxy.

Just as this discovery expanded our understanding of the Universe, the revelation of other dimensions could revolutionize our perception of reality. It could potentially answer some of the most profound philosophical questions about existence, such as the possibility of different life forms and the concept of time and space. I am not a scientist or an astronomer, but I like to read books about astronomy, among other things. Before the 18th century, humanity was convinced that only one galaxy (our Milky Way) existed.

Today (I wrote this text on the 7th of September, 2024), humanity is convinced that there is only one dimension.

I wonder if science will prove one day that there are infinite numbers of dimensions. The older I am, the more I see and feel that I am getting away from the universal truth and that humankind will never answer many existential questions, e.g., is there a God? Perhaps the same issue is with the question of whether there are other dimensions. For me, it would be a genuinely magical discovery if someone would prove that parallel universes exist. I love to rock in the clouds. For example, I often try to imagine how much more advanced I will be in humankind one hundred years after my death.

Will we be able to travel to Mars?

Is it possible to colonize the Red Planet? Shouldn’t we first start to colonize the deep Pacific Ocean floor and the mountains of Antarctica as training? Who will conquer the Moon? Americans or Chinese? Will someone prove that other dimensions exist? I cannot wait to hear such news. Still, I doubt whether all these things happened during my lifetime (I was 39 years old while writing this text). I keep my fingers crossed for all the scientists. Still, I think the best thing I can do to learn something new about the Universe is to read new books about broadly defined astronomy.
