How to remain a 100% independent artist, like me? Is artistic independence important in an artist’s life?
I believe that the answer is straightforward. Indeed, it is essential to remain a fully independent artist. When you possess one hundred percent of control over what you do, undoubtedly you own important management of your time and life. My photographic philosophy is that I do not want to receive orders regarding my photography. I do not want to be paid for making portraits, pictures from weddings and so on. The aim of not only my artistic activity but my whole life is to do what I want. Not what my client wants me to do.
I do not want to think about money while making photographs. Moreover, I want to forget about money.
While creating all the pictures and texts, I do not think in terms “how much do I earn on it?” When I create, I am wondering if my activity will be remembered and appreciated by the posterity. Indeed, it is my artistic independence. I do not ask what art can do for me. I always think about what I can do for art and humankind. Once again: while taking photos, do not analyze how much money you will earn. You’d better also ask what you can do for art. If you ask this question, then will appear your artistic independence. You will begin to search for your private artistic projects. Also, you will initiate to make questions and seeking the answers for them.
Art can be a tool which empowers us.
Art heals, brings relief, develops us, motivates, gives a kick to action, and inspires. I believe that art is one of the most powerful tools to become independent not only in artistic activity but in life as a whole. When we create, we should seek independence. Once we own artistic autonomy, we will become a better human. We will begin to do what is in our soul, heart, and mind. Not what the client wants us to do. I hope, my Dear Friend, that after reading this post, you will not possess doubts regarding artistic independence anymore.
