Be local, think global.

July 29, 2019 by Adam Mazek

Last time I had a thought that we should be local. Simultaneously we should think global.

The fact is that we can transform the title of this post in many various ways. Nevertheless, I believe that we must be as local as possible, e.g., while doing our artistic activity. And at the same time, one should think in global, universal, timeless terms. One of the examples of such behavior is Salvador Dali’s many artistic activities. Undoubtedly, the famous Spanish master was a man who was ahead of his time. Dali was a global man in such terms that he lived throughout his life, both in his Spanish homeland and Paris and New York City. But, he often referred his artworks to his hometown Port Lligat, near Cadaqués (Catalonia, Spain).

There are many paintings in which, throughout his whole life, Dali painted a seaport of his hometown.

On the other hand, “Dali Theatre-Museum” is placed in the Spanish town of Figueres. Thus, we can undoubtedly state that Salvador acted locally but in global, universal terms. How can we prove that? We should ask whether Dali’s artworks are known and recognized worldwide. The answer is obvious.

I do not want to be an exception. I continuously want to act locally in a global way.

Thus, 95% of the images I make are made in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. I want to capture the view in Warsaw in my intimate, personal, and specific artistic approach. My hometown, Brok, is also one of my favorite locations to photograph. Nevertheless, by writing my texts, I wish to hearten not only the Poles but also inspire the whole humans, both present and future generations, from every corner of the world. That’s why I always try to be local and think global.
I genuinely encourage you, my Dear Friend, to do the same. Trust Salvador Dali, not me. Try to empower your artistic activity not only your native contemporaries but the whole of humankind, including future generations.
