The older I am, the more I see that beauty can radiate from the most humble, mundane things.
I prove it all the time through street photography. A rusted door, a cracked pavement, stains, or a weathered signpost-these are the things that I find beauty in. It’s a unique perspective that I’ve come to appreciate. I wrote this text on the 20th of October, 2024. It was a day when I left my home in the Mokotow district in Warsaw to find beauty hidden in the most humble, mundane things. I was rucking for more than two hours and took over 12.5k steps. The so-called “St. Martin’s Summer” (in Poland, we call it Polish golden autumn struck my eyes from every corner of the capital of Poland.
No wonder during the last four photo-walkings I took the previous week, I took approximately 250 photos in each single walk.
I do not remember such an incredible streak. In general, I try not to be too attached to numbers in my artistic activity. Still, while walking during the last four walks, the beautiful sights appeared smoothly in front of my eyes. How cold was it during these walkings? It was from 10 to 16 degrees Celsius (50 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit). As you can see, my Dear Friend, there are already days when I can chill my body outside (I do not have to mention that I walk in summer clothes). I love autumn. Also, I love the slowly upcoming winter.
I cannot wait to see the winter scenery in Warsaw again. For many people, these days are sad and gloomy. For me, they are tremendous not only because I can colder my body outside. During winter, I always aim to photograph the mundane things as they would be real gems. For me, beauty radiates from the most modest and prosaic things. Every time I walk and do street photography, I want to prove all these things to myself and you, my Dear Friend.
