It is just unbelievable how artists can draw inspirations from each other.
I am not sure if David Bowie ever read (I hope he did!) books written by the Polish writer of science fiction – Stanislaw Lem (e.g., “Solaris” or “Eden”). Nevertheless, I know that the 1968 science-fiction film “2001: A Space Odyssey” inspired him to write his one of the most recognizable song (“Space Oddity”). Stanley Kubrick was the one who directed the movie. All the above-mentioned 20th-century masterpieces have one common thing. They talk about death and the “unknown” hidden somewhere in outer space. These classics do not answer any questions which humankind have been questioning for centuries: who created us? Is there a God? Why are we here? What is our future? Is there a heavenly life after death?
There are no answers, only questions.
Moreover, mentioned above, art masterpieces only raise more significant concerns regarding the place of human beings in the universe. But one thing is for sure. If you like science-fiction, you should just read Lem books, watch “2001: A Space Odyssey” movie and listen to some of the David Bowie’s songs. These classic masterpieces are genuinely inspiring. What is more, I do believe that one day major Tom will hear my inner voice and he will make my dreams come true. My goal is to create photographs comparable to above-mentioned respected works of art. I want to inspire others in the same way as prior Artists affected me. One question remaining unanswered in this case – can you hear me, Major Tom?
