Sometimes I change the lyrics of Nazareth’s famous song, “Love Hurts,” into “Cold hurts.”
Does coldness truly hurt? Yes, it does. Undoubtedly, everyone who spent a few minutes without gloves during frigid temperatures felt that cold hurts. I sometimes feel pain when I walk in summer clothes (including the www.adammazek.com t-shirt) in minus temperatures. It happens during the second half of my walking, and it only regards my hand and fingers. In one of my previous posts, entitled “Pain,” I wrote that pain is one of the most fundamental factors that help us grow physically and mentally. Pain has taught all of us since the very beginning of our lives. I have no doubt that pain that appears due to exposing the body to coldness is the one from which we can learn about our mind and body. No pain, no gain. To become more powerful, one must feel the pain. Without it, there is no broadly defined development.
We must strive to fight for ourselves.
I wrote this text on the 22nd of January, 2022. It was a day that I spent with my beloved Parents in Brok. On this day, I did not take only a freezing-cold shower. Moreover, at 9 p.m. I took a lonely walk for 30 minutes wearing summer clothes. I went to the dark forest. It was -1 degrees Celsius (30,2 degrees Fahrenheit). Did I feel cold? No, I did not. Still, I was singing “Cold hurts” to Nazareth’s tune, but I did not feel the cold even in my fingers. I was afraid I would feel cold, but it did not happen.
I have no doubts that the more I expose my body to frigid temperatures, the more powerful and hardened I become. In this way, the cold brings me pain. This experience builds up and solidifies my body and mind. Cold hurts, indeed. Still, I always remember that it is one of the best pain people can receive.
