Text “Color” will be another unpublished post written in the past.
I wrote it on the 13th of March, 2018. Still, I decided to rediscover it on the 10th of September, 2023 (after more than five years). I do not know why I chose not to publish it. Now I will do it.
Ladies and gentlemen, please read the text:
Some people asked me why my photographs are not in color. In general, I have a lot of pictures in which color is the most important thing. I will write posts about colors. I plan to publish one post about one color (with my images) per month, but I do not know when it will happen. So, back to the question, why do I publish my pictures in monochrome? I remember one sentence that stuck in my mind and did not want to go out of my mind. The sentence was something like this: If your image does not stand out by its color, it is possible that this picture will look better if we switch to the B&W option.
In general, I follow this rule. In most of my pictures, color is not essential.
I also noticed that the photograph becomes more readable when we extract color from our images. For me, this is some minimalism, a concept in art and photography that involves stripping away unnecessary elements to focus on the essence of the subject, removing distractions full of colors from the frame. Monochrome pictures receive a different perception when we extract the color. Besides this, black and white photos somehow present an old-school attitude towards photography. This attitude is rooted in the history of photography, where black and white was the only available medium for a long time.
It is often associated with the work of famous classical photographers like Eugene Atget, Edward Steichen, or Edward Weston.
Of course, the open question is whether all the artists mentioned above would do color pictures if they could only do that. I want to remind you that they were created at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries (Atget) till the late ’50 of the XX century (Edward Weston), so this question will remain open forever. Henri Cartier-Bresson disparaged color photography. While I’m committed to my artistic style but also open to new opportunities. When I see a chance to capture a photo where color is the most crucial element, I seize it. I’m excited to share that images in color will appear on this website in the future as I continue to explore and evolve my artistic style. Still, I am determining when I will publish pictures full of colors.
