Last time I wrote a text about nothingness. This post will refer to my thoughts from the past. Why? Because I believe that creating art is magically producing life out of nothingness.
I wrote that nothingness is, perhaps, something that awaits us after death. Perhaps, the only possible way to avoid getting into the vacuum of nothingness and oblivion is to become immortal in other peoples’ memories. That’s why creating art can make all of us immortal. The physical death of all humans is the one thing we can be sure of. I have no doubt that we all, sooner or later, will die. In the same ways as nothingness, it is death that is omnipresent. By creating art, that is, by immortalizing our name for posterity, we give life to something that will be dead within a few months, years, or decades.
On the other hand, by writing that creating art is magically producing life out of nothingness, I want to stress that it is fantastic to create something from nothing.
We can imagine primordial silence that occupied the lives of our primordial ancestors. One day, one of them noticed that creating some sounds could relax them. Who knows, perhaps it was a moment when music began? On the other hand, cavemen undoubtedly saw empty walls in their caves. What drove them to start painting a sight of Pleiades stars on these blank walls, like in Lascaux caves? Without these paintings, these people would fall into eternal oblivion. Still, they immortalized themselves thanks to creating many pictures on caves’ walls.
By creating, they rescued themselves from getting into the void of nothingness. Why? Because we know that they made something tremendously beautiful. When I write all these things, I feel excited. I hope that thanks to everything I create: photographs, texts, the www.adammazek.com website, „Diaries” and works of art (e.g., „Negation of the End” or „Birds”), I hope that I will survive the memories of future generations.
