Dark days.

January 2, 2024 by Adam Mazek

Undoubtedly, the war in Ukraine cast a shadow on the whole of Europe and most parts of the world. Still, today (I wrote this text on the 4th of November, 2022), I do not want to write about dark days in Ukraine.

I want to stress that days in Poland began being shorter than during daylight saving time. Thus, I know I will be doing street photography less frequently. Am I sad because of it? Only a little bit. I cannot influence our planet Earth’s movements that affect all the seasons in every corner of the world. Moreover, I go to the office to work to be able to pay my bills. That’s why I am only a little bit sad. Still, I know the upcoming dark days, the Autumn and Winter periods of 2022/2023, will be exciting. Why?

It is because I will be walking in frigid temperatures in the second season in a row of this peculiar activity.

Indeed, I am already doing it. Throughout most of my life, like most people, I’ve been waiting for Autumn and Winter to end. I could not wait for spring and the warmth it gives to all of us. Now I know I won’t be waiting for winter to end. Of course, the beginning of spring has an enormous advantage. It is a fact that dark days at the end of March will fade away. Still, I am merely happy that in the next five months, I will be able to cool down my body while walking in summer clothes in cold temperatures.

That’s how I turned dark days into cold days where the sun shines most of the day, but it happens in my mind, heart, and soul. I must admit that I am happy that hot summer days are over, and I won’t be sweating while walking and doing street photography.
