How sad and scary for me is that people living in metropolises cannot see the sky full of stars daily. Undoubtedly, the dark sky is something very desirable today.
According to the World Bank information, almost 56% of people living in the world in 2019 were urban dwellers. It seems to me that this is why the vast majority of them are focused on earning money and not asking themselves questions like what is my role in one’s life, why was I born, was there a Big Bang, or maybe the universe has no beginning or the end, both in time and in space. The fact is that seeing a dark sky without light pollution is something that many people would give a lot to see and experience. Am I an exception? Yes and no. Yes, because I cannot go outside and observe the dark night sky while spending most of my time in Warsaw.
On the other hand, my beloved parents live in Brok, situated 90 km (~56 miles) from Warsaw.
In Brok, placed near the so-called White Forest (Puszcza Biala), has excellent conditions to observe a dark sky. The fact is that we, the people, polluted the Earth with light so that most people cannot see stars every night. For me, observing a dark sky is probably one of the most fundamental issues when we talk about the broadly defined comfort of living. Thus, maybe living in the countryside should be regarded today as a luxury? The answer is ambivalent, probably. It all depends on many issues, including the country where you live, how you make a living, etc.
In conclusion, I want to encourage you, my Dear Friend, to explore the night sky no matter where you live. Of course, if you live in a big city, I recommend you to experience the dark, starry night outside the city walls.
