Dig into the cold.

January 9, 2024 by Adam Mazek

The more frequently I dig into the cold, the more I want it.

I wrote this text on the 11th of November, 2022. It was a day when I was doing street photography while it was 11 degrees Celsius (51.8 degrees Fahrenheit). Was it cold for me? No. Still, while observing passers-by, I realized that it was tremendously cold for these people. I saw that while everyone was hiding and fleeing the cold. It was a moment when I realized I wanted to dig into and confront coldness by surrendering to it. How happy I am that the weather forecast foresees that there will be freezing temperatures (from -1 to -3 Celsius degrees [26,6 to 30,2 degrees Fahrenheit]) within one week.

The truth is that I never walked in frigid temperatures in summer clothes without a winter cap and gloves.

In today’s post, I want to stress that I was walking in summer clothes in freezing temperatures during the autumn/winter season of 2021/2022. Still, I was wearing a winter cap and gloves. Today, I plan to try to walk in freezing temperatures wearing summer clothes without a winter cap and gloves.
Did I get insane? Perhaps I did. Still, I want to try to dig into the cold. Will I manage to do it? Possibly, I will fail, and I will come back home after ten minutes. If it happens, I do not care at all. Next time, I will put on a winter cap and gloves and continue exposing my body to frigid temperatures.

Still, I hope to withstand the freezing temperatures while walking for 40 minutes or even two hours, practically without external protection from the cold. That’s how I plan to dig into the cold. I want to feel it with my whole body, experience it, endure it, and check my ability to face not cold but my weaknesses.
