The aim of my photographic activity is not documenting reality.
My photographic and blogging activity aims to create art on the highest possible level from the very beginning. While doing my photographs and writing my texts, I do not think about my images as a documentary. Indeed, it is hard to categorize street lamps’ pictures with the sky, garbage, trees, or people walking by Warsaw’s streets as documentary photography. Still, I believe that in tonnes of my photographs, someone passionate about photography, some cyber-archeologists, I would say, can find some pictures that can be categorized as documentary photography.
I take pictures regularly since October 2015. I wrote this post on the 7th of January 2021.
The fact is that during this period (more than five years), many things happened not only in my private life. Also, many things occurred in Warsaw’s cityscape. I know that there are many passionate photographers who love to take pictures of architecture. I do not belong to them. Undoubtedly, I also take some photos of buildings (“Living in Poland” sets can be one example), but documenting reality is not something I want to do. I treat the possibility of registering the surrounding only as I would do it by chance, but not the particular aim. Of course, I respect all the people who make a documenting work.
Without a doubt, they do an enormous job.
Without people who document reality, we would not possess such marvelous knowledge as we already have. As a curiosity, I want to add that Warsaw’s Old Town, which was utterly destroyed during the Second World War, was rebuilt thanks to Canaletto’s paintings. I want to be a Canaletto. I aim to present Warsaw artistically. Nevertheless, I won’t have something against it if someone wants to use some of my pictures as documentary photography.
