During New Year’s Eve 2024/2025*, I wondered whether one could divide each hour, minute, second, millisecond, microsecond, and so on into infinitely smaller and smaller parts so that the final end of the year would never appear. Why?
Because we could divide time into smaller and smaller parts without end. That’s how we could stop time in our imagination. Also, we could say that time really stands still. By doing this mental exercise, I discovered that the New Year would never start because we are still dividing the previous year (and its smaller and smaller parts) into infinity without reaching the following year. That’s how we could stop time, in our imagination. While thinking about it, I realized that time is only a concept that helps us organize our lives.
Still, is time only a concept?
After all, the world we live in appeared AFTER the Big Bang, and not only we but also the Universe is getting older with each second. Aren’t we trapped in present reality because it is impossible to return to the past, and the future remains a mystery with endless possibilities? Or, perhaps there are infinite numbers of other dimensions, and quantum mechanics psychics would somehow prove it in the future?
After all, until the 19th century, people thought that there was only one, our Milky Way galaxy. Do we live in a black hole? Some courageous and brave theories are slowly considering this option as well. I love rocking in the clouds, even if I do not have scientific knowledge. I only read popular scientific books. I hope to read them until the end of my life; that is, when my time (if it exists) vanishes.
