Today (I wrote this text on the 10th of January, 2026), I was doing street photography in -8 degrees Celsius (17.6 degrees Fahrenheit). Did I enjoy it?
Yes, of course. I was enjoying doing street photography in -8 degrees Celsius tremendously. How did my walk look? Was I rucking? Was I wearing summer clothes? I decided not to take a heavy rucksack with me. Also, I started my walk with long jeans, winter boots, a winter cap, gloves, and a hoodie. I took off my hoodie in the middle of my walk, which lasted two hours (I took almost 12k steps and took over 200 photos). That’s how I manage to cope with my favorite activities (before doing it, I had to set priorities and I wrote about it in one of my previous texts): I did street photography, exposed my body to cold by walking in a t-shirt for half of my walk, but did not rucking. That’s how I cope with freezing temperatures.
What’s the plan for tomorrow?
Tomorrow it should be around -4 degrees Celsius (25 degrees Fahrenheit). I have an initial plan of going out with winter boots (I prefer them, because there is a much lower possibility of slipping on the ice than in sneakers), long jeans, a winter cap, and gloves, but without a hoodie. Also, I plan to walk with the heaviest possible (for me, as of today) weight of my rucksack: 37.5 kg (83 lbs). Still, I know that I will make a final decision tomorrow.
The only thing I know is that I will want to prioritize doing street photography tomorrow. I will have the possibility to cool my body and do rucking in the middle of next week, while returning to my home from the office in the dark. Tomorrow I want to focus mainly on taking pictures on Warsaw’s streets in the daylight, and amid the beautiful snowy scenery.
