Let’s discuss finding creativity in the mundane, specifically how street photography can help us think differently. I’ve been on this journey since October 2015 and am excited to share my insights with you, my Dear Friend.
The more I do street photography, the more I feel it empowers me to think differently. How is it possible? One of the aspects of my answer will be the one strictly connected with visual issues. I take photos in color. I do not make black-and-white photographs. Still, this fact does not prevent me from seeing the world as black and white stills. When I take photos, I always imagine frames in front of my eyes in black and white colors (of course, with all possible shades of grey). That’s how I visually try to be creative while taking pictures in mundane surroundings.
This is how I try to think differently while doing street photography.
The truth is that while walking, many great ideas come to my mind. I often realized that I forget about other aspects of my life while walking. Usually, it is a moment when, suddenly, many great ideas or solutions to problems appear in my mind. That’s why I think differently while walking. Many of us tend to overthink how to find solutions when we face difficulties.
I often proved to myself that sometimes we should do the opposite: forget about the issue and not think about it.
Suddenly, great ideas can come to mind unexpectedly. I had similar cases when I was swimming regularly between 2011-2018. I remember that many great solutions to my professional issues came to my mind while swimming. Today (I wrote this text on the 17th of July, 2023), after writing all these things, I realized I found creativity in the mundane, even at the swimming pool. It’s a thrilling feeling, like stumbling upon a hidden treasure. I wish you, my Dear Friend, to try to find otherness in mundane reality. I recommend treating it as a way of childish game. After all, who told us we should not nourish the kids living in us?
