For me, street photography is like a game.

February 25, 2026 by Adam Mazek

For me, street photography is not just a hobby; it’s like a game.

A game where the streets are my playground, the people are my players, and the camera is my tool to capture the moments. The older I become, the more I feel that street photography is like a game for me. Why? Undoubtedly, I do street photography for the sake of doing it. It gives me pleasure, it’s voluntary, it takes me out of time, and it gives me a sense of engagement. I do not think about the outcome of this play. It is the act, the process that counts. It provides me moments of obliviousness. When walking and taking pictures of mundane reality, I feel I cherish my inner child. These are moments when I do not think about my office work, but I am rocking in the clouds, imagining many tremendous things.

Sometimes, some great memories appear in my mind while walking and playing with street photography.

Without this childish joy, I would not have done street photography for almost ten years (I started doing it in October 2015, and I wrote this text on the 2nd of September, 2025). While writing all these things, I realized I could write quite similar things regarding writing and managing the www.adammazek.com blog. While doing all these creative things, I do not think about the outcome. I do not ask myself how much money I would earn from doing this particular thing. Also, I do not think about recognition. I hope to remain a somewhat anonymous artist until my final days, who will be able to continue doing all this stuff until death.

It’s a tremendous feeling for me that even though I am walking on the same streets for the umpteenth time, I still feel tremendous childish joy that I can simply walk, observe surroundings, and immortalize it by taking pictures. This continuous engagement in creativity, this dedication to the art, is what makes street photography a game of joy and wonder. How could I name my artistic game? I would call this game a “Photo Hunter.”
