I think Led Zeppelin’s “For Your Life” is one of the most underrated songs not only by the British rock band but also by the whole of music history.
Throughout my life (I was born in March 1985, and I wrote the “For Your Life” text on the 24th of May, 2025, while being forty years old), I haven’t heard the “For Your Life” song either on the Polish radio station or on other occasions. Also, Led Zeppelin’s album “Presence,” which includes the title song, is not as widespread as, e.g., the “Physical Graffiti” album. I do not know why the title song is not so popular. Luckily, I discovered this song for myself, which helps me strive through the difficulties I feel while rucking.
The truth is that I love feeling the tremendous burden on my back and shoulders (for today, I walk with 35 kg [77 lbs] of additional weight) and humming in my mind the tremendous melody of Led Zeppelin’s tune.
These are the moments I feel totally fine with myself and the mundane reality surrounding me. I feel pain, but I have written many times that I want to find comfort in discomfort and that there are positive pains, and the one connected with controlled physical activity is one of them. The more I walk, take pictures on Warsaw’s streets, ruck, and hum the “For Your Life” song, the more I feel I am slowly addicted to all these things. Undoubtedly, it is much better to be addicted to such things rather than smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol.
If you do not know the titled song, My Dear Friend, I genuinely recommend playing it right now. Do it, for your life. Do not be fooled by the first impression. There could not be the “Wow” effect. I recommend giving this song a few chances. Once you hear it, you will become addicted to it in the same way as I am addicted to feeling the tremendous burden while rucking. Still, Led Zeppelin’s song helped me to overcome all the difficulties.
