For me, taking photos using a digital camera is like playing guitar for Frank Zappa.
The truth is that both for Frank and me, using imagination and abilities to playing guitar or using a camera is like having a spontaneous, childish game.
Is street photography as spontaneous as playing the guitar?
Without a doubt, you could ask me, my Dear Friend. Yes, playing music and taking photos on the streets are equally spontaneous. Every time I get out to take a photo-walk, whether by myself or with my beloved Kamilka, no matter the weather, the fact is that we never know what will happen and whom we will meet. Moreover, I have no idea what kind of photographs I will take every time I walk. Another common Frank Zappa’s and my artistic feature is that broadly understood creation is having fun. Without possessing a childish joy in broadly defined artistic activities, there would be no such magnificent and odd Zappa’s songs. Moreover, without spontaneity, there would like no www.adammazek.com website and pictures presented there.
Frank Zappa was a real guitar virtuoso. Famous American Singer stated that there is a soul in songs played live.
Of course, I do agree with him. There is the no better option to listen to music than listen to the live show. It seems that Frank Zappa’s contact with the audience was crucial in terms of playing music. Regarding taking photos, I do not think the audience wants to join me while strolling through Warsaw’s streets. Still, I believe that childish joy while creating photographs or texts is inseparable from creating artistic content on the highest possible level. If you do not know what I mean, better turn on Frank Zappa’s songs like “Muffin Man” or “Bobby Brown.” Also, you can stop reading and start watching my photographs, for example, in my Portfolio site.
