Freedom to express oneself is one of the most valuable assets that democracy can provide to us.
Writing, speech, artistically expressing oneself are the most human, advanced, and efficient tools to communicate. Without the free flow of information, without the freedom to express oneself, the country becomes more isolated and separated. Thus, it starts to regress in development. The fact is that well-developed countries, like the USA or Western European countries, possess the freedom of speech and writing. Also, they provide their citizens with the ability to freedom to express themselves artistically.
Is my country, Poland, the exception? I do not think so. If there would be censorship, I probably could not do what I already do.
Nevertheless, I believe that practically all countries possess their kind of censorship. Democracy should not be equated with equal freedom for everyone. Countries that I mentioned above possess self-preservation circles of power, ruling classes, wealthy and influential elites, who are tyrannizing the rest of the majority. Moreover, they own their common myths and ideologies. The fact is that it is not easy for them to prohibit or eliminate unwanted or unusual information.
Nevertheless, they try to marginalize adverse information effectively.
The lack of free flow of thoughts between humans, circles, groups of people in the society was, is, and will be, in practically all the countries that ever existed. I try to be realistic. Thus, I believe that it is impossible to state that even developed countries do not censorship their citizens. Still, the people who are living in mentioned-above countries possess much more freedom to express their thoughts and feelings than in Russia or China. Still, they will never receive total freedom to do it. To summarize, I want to stress that freedom to express oneself is the most crucial thing in all democratic states. Still, anyone will never receive full freedom to express oneself anywhere.
