Getting wet in the rain.

June 15, 2024 by Adam Mazek

Today (I wrote this text on the 28th of April, 2023), I will write about getting wet in the rain.

Why don’t people want to get wet in the rain? Am I a fool to relish the opportunity to get wet and watch others run away just to avoid getting wet? To write this text, I was inspired by my thoughts written during my rainy and nostalgic photo walk on the 2nd of April, 2023. It was a cold, windy, and rainy day in the capital of Poland. I strolled in Warsaw’s Mokotow district (Wygledow and Sluzewiec neighborhoods). I saw people escaping from the rain. It looked like water was hurting them. It was clear they did not want to soak anyhow. They did not want to touch water drops as they were contaminated.
Contrary to me. I was walking in summer clothes (including the www.adammazek.com t-shirt).

How cold was it? It was 2 Celsius degrees (36 degrees Fahrenheit). I was freezing. I must admit it.

Mixing almost freezing temperatures with pouring water is one of the best ways to cool the body. Did I enjoy getting wet and freezing while walking? If you read my blog regularly, my Dear Friend, undoubtedly, you know the answer. I tremendously enjoyed it. While writing about all these things, I reminded myself that I loved to get wet in the rain when I was young. Still, after adulthood reached me, I sheltered myself from the raindrops, as 99% of other adults do.

Now I see that such little joys of feeling raindrops on one’s skin and feeling cold (in a controlled way) are some of the greatest, yet simplest, things people could have. After all, shouldn’t street photography be pure fun and joy? In simplicity, I trust. Am I afraid of getting cold during the rain? No. I fear that my Nikon D-90 will break during the rain.
