I intend to treat walking in the heat as the same challenge as walking in the cold.

June 4, 2025 by Adam Mazek

I wrote this text on the 5th of July, 2024. It was a day when I could state that during the summer of 2024 in Poland, there had only been one heatwave so far.

In today’s text, I want to stress that I hope not to resign too easily from walking in the scorching heat. I hope to treat walking in the heat on the same level as strolling during a harsh freezing temperature. Undoubtedly, it will be challenging for me. I prefer coldness to hot temperature. I believe it is always (in Poland) easier to hide away from the cold (e.g., by putting on another layer of clothes) than to escape the heat during hot summer days. I know that for many people, all the things I write in this text may be silly. The truth is that I love coldness, and I cannot imagine living without exposing my body to cold.

While writing about all these things, I realized I missed cold winter days.

When I walk in summer clothes during freezing temperatures, I feel almost like a demigod with superpowers. Coldness wakes me up and gives me the power to act. It stimulates not only my muscles but also my brain. After exposing my body to cold, I feel refreshed and euphoric. I believe there is no better way to evoke dreams and an ecstatic state of mind than exposing one’s body to frigid temperatures. So, what can walking in a scorching temperature bring to me? I do not know. Undoubtedly, sweating. I hope there are some benefits of walking in the heat. Still, for today, they are unknown to me. The truth is that a few days ago, I made more than 10k steps while it was 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), but it was not as pleasurable as walking in the cold.
