Have I ever had an experience where walking and doing street photography made me feel free?
Yes, it happens every time I walk on Warsaw’s streets and take pictures of the mundane reality surrounding us- from the everyday hustle and bustle to the unnoticed beauty of ordinary objects. Every time I do it, I feel not only tremendous joy but also unlimited freedom. While strolling and doing street photography, I feel alive. The older I am, the more frequently I see the possibility of walking as a symbol of freedom. The truth is that not only my feet are on the move, but also the whole Universe. I suppose many people underestimate the possibility of walking. I do not want to be one of them. The truth is that I want to cherish the opportunity of strolling wherever I want.
For me, the concept of ‘going nowhere means going everywhere’ is a profound realization.
It means that in the act of walking and doing street photography, I am not confined to a specific destination or purpose. Instead, I am free to explore, observe, and capture the world around me. Many times, I had plans regarding my upcoming photo walk. I imagined going in some direction, let’s name it north. How often when I was getting out of my flat, I decided to change my plans and go, e.g., south. For me, it is the essence of freedom. While doing street photography, I feel like a free man. I regret all the people who cannot freely walk due to, e.g., health issues.
I wish all of these people to have health as best as possible. When I think about all these things and realize I have everything to walk daily, I know I must simply do it. I should walk for walking’s sake. I do not aim to run or swim (I had been swimming regularly for seven years, between 2011-2018). I want to walk because I can freely develop my photographic passion while doing it. I love taking pictures of boring reality. I wish you, my Dear Friend, to find your own piece of freedom in this beautiful, scary, creepy, and magnificent world.
