How did our ancestors from prehistoric times live? What would they do in particular cases? This is a question I sometimes ask myself as I ask how to live.
How frequently did prehistoric people eat? What did they eat? Did they wash in cold water? How many footsteps did they take daily? How often did they run, sit, squat, climb, or hang on rocks or the branches? It is not the case that answers to what our ancestors did or didn’t are the key to becoming healthy today. I do not treat it 1:1. Still, I believe by asking such questions, I can find a hint of what to do or not do. For example, we can easily imagine prehistoric people did not have a fridge. They rather could only store their food for a short time. That’s why, I suppose, they ate what they managed to get (pick, gather, or hunt) relatively quickly, without too much hesitation.
Moreover, I can imagine they did not eat vegetables or fruit (e.g., berries) in the middle of winter.
Did they eat processed food, e.g., milk chocolate or chips, straight from the packages? The answer is obvious. Going further, I can imagine they did not sit on a chair for eight hours or stare at the TV screens or mobile phones for the rest of the hours. Instead, they were walking for very long distances (compared to people of the third decade of the XXI century), often through harsh, cold winds and through freezing cold rivers, to get some food.
Undoubtedly, my Dear Friend, you know why I sometimes ask and imagine such things. I just try to get hints about how to live in modern times.
Human organisms have not changed much since prehistoric times once we consider the evolution of other primordial organisms. Most of us know that, e.g., crocodiles have not changed much since dinosaurs’ times.” Velvet worms, cow sharks, or horseshoe crabs are other examples of great survivors who have lived on this planet for hundreds of millions of years. These organisms mostly stayed the same from prehistoric times. What’s the proof that human bodies also did not change too much? Intermittent fasting is the key to the answer. Speaking shortly, our ancestors did not eat regularly. Yet, they developed. I believe they had to expose their bodies to cold, whether they wanted to or not, which is another hint of how to answer the title question of how to live. Sitting lifestyle full of sweets and warmth will damage us more than we think.
