I do not desire to have all the Taschen books in my collection.

March 19, 2025 by Adam Mazek

This text refers to the post “The Forbidden Fruit,” and it provides insights into my book collection.

I wrote “The Forbidden Fruit” text on the 5th of May, 2023. I stated there something like this:

I need new books to survive, to nourish my mind and imagination, to know new worlds, and to live (…) I do desire to have all the books in my collection.

Today (I wrote the “I do not desire to have all the Taschen books in my collection” text on the 14th of March 2024), I want to stress that I agree with the first sentence of my previous thoughts. I do not agree with the second statement. The truth is that I gave away many books, including those published by Taschen, Phaidon, or Thames and Hudson, to the local library and my office mates. That’s how I proved to myself I do not need to get, have, and retain all the books. Still, it does not mean I do not plan to buy new ones and give away subsequent ones.

For example, my favorite bookstore, Bookoff, has a sale right now, and I think I will buy two to four books. Perhaps I will give away them in the future.

After all, sharing is caring. I know I can sell them. I do not rule out this option. In today’s post, I want to stress that I do not want to get attached to physical things. After all, these are only things. I prefer to read books and give them away so they will inspire and nourish other minds hungry for knowledge and incentives. This freedom from material possessions has opened my mind to new possibilities and experiences. Of course, books are ornaments of houses. That’s why I still have many (too many?) books I’ve already read, but I presume I can re-read them in the future. I finish this writing and read something nourishing for my mind.
