I take inspiration from mundane reality.

December 6, 2025 by Adam Mazek

I wrote the “I take inspiration from mundane reality” text on the 22nd of May, 2025, after walking, rucking, and doing street photography on Warsaw’s streets.

I know I wrote it many times, but I believe if something is worth repeating, I will do it. After all, I do not know who or when one will start reading my blog. Writing about the mundane reality is something I simply like to do. I would say I would like to write about it on the same level as I would photograph it. I’ve been doing street photography since October 2015. It’s been almost ten years since Warsaw’s mundane reality has inspired me over and over again. I cannot explain how it happened. Also, I cannot explain processes occurring in my mind while walking among one of the most mundane realities people could imagine.

Without a shadow of a doubt, I take inspiration from mundane reality.

It does not mean I do not like rocking in clouds. After all, Stanislaw Lem’s science fiction books are among my favorite ones. In novels written by the famous Polish writer, we can find unimaginable amounts of inspiration. Undoubtedly, Lem had an imagination out of this world. But for me, the real inspiration comes from the personal experiences I have while doing street photography, and I hope you can feel that connection too. Contrary to him, I cannot invent such unimaginable worlds. Even though I love rocking in the clouds, I feel too much grounded to our beloved planet Earth.

When I walk among Warsaw’s streets, I feel I am in the best place, at the best time, where and when I could ever have been.

While writing all these things, I realized that not only street photography but also rucking, with its grounding effect, helped me to realize I live here and now and that I do not want to analyze the past or plan the future, which may never come. Both past and future, as of the present moment, are science-fictional, and the only thing that should matter, no matter where and when you live, my Dear Friend, is the present moment. It’s a joy to be fully present in the here and now, and I hope this realization inspires you as much as it has inspired me.
