In today’s post (I wrote it on the 30th of April, 2023), I will explain why I try not to focus on wealth and money acquisition.
Was Leonardo da Vinci rich? What kind of wealth did David Bowie have? Did Zdzislaw Beksinski live in a villa? Geniuses are not remembered by future generations because of their possessions but because of what geniuses created and left behind. We would treat information about famous artists’ wealth somewhat as a curiosity, nothing else. My existence’s aim is not to increase my wealth. I want to earn as much money as possible but do not want to focus on this activity. It is hard for me to explain, but my brother’s death (for more information, check my post entitled “Farewell”) showed me that life is, undoubtedly, something more than just working hard and increasing money.
Of course, without money, I would not be managing the www.adammazek.com website.
I need money to pay bills and be able to buy some food. Still, I want to dedicate myself to something more than increasing wealth. I’m looking for something more meaningful in my life than only counting money. That’s why I do street photography, write, manage my blog, and prepare “Diaries” and sets of pictures like “Negation Of The End” and “Birds.” I want to be remembered by posterity on a similar level as Frederic Chopin, Vincent van Gogh, Alfred Hitchcock, Freddie Mercury, Stanislaw Lem, or Magdalena Abakonowicz.
Do we know what all artists mentioned in this text possessed?
Some of us may know something about this issue. Still, I have no doubts that we know all the people mentioned above from the works of art that they created during their lifetime. That’s why I do not want to focus on wealth and money. I want to live forever in a shared cultural memory. Focusing on money is, paradoxically, a waste of time.
