I wrote this post on the 15th of June, 2021. It was one day after the first match of the Polish national football (in U.S. soccer) team in EURO 2020/2021. I was a fool that I watched this game.
Unfortunately, this post won’t describe a magical Sunflower Bean band’s song named “I was a fool.” This song reminds me that we should always believe in youth. But why was I a fool? Because I resigned from taking pictures after my office work. Of course, I wanted to see the game. The truth is that I am a free man, and no one told me what to do – to watch the football game or do street photography. I chose football. Unfortunately, it was the wrong choice. Poland lost the match against Slovakia 1:2. I was furious. Why? Because Polish players did not present involvement on the highest level. They looked as like they did not want to play football and win.
How angry I was for them because I did not see in their game fighting team spirit. It is OK to lose the game because it is only a sport. Still, when you do not see a willingness to fight for a good result, you can feel as you had been cheated by the players and their coach. It was not the first time in my life when I thought that I would see fighting Polish football players, but I saw a group of weak players.
I could go outside to take a photo walk after my office work instead of sitting opposite the TV screen and watch poor Polish players’ performances.
The truth is that within three weeks before the game, I had to resign from a few photos walks because I had visited physiotherapists. I had to go to cure my shoulder. I wrote many times that we should not worry about things for which we do not have influence. In this case, I should also not worry about Polish footballer’s games. Still, I am only human. I am genuinely disappointed by their performance. Once again, in my life, I was a fool that I believed in them. Is that mean that I won’t support Polish players in the future? Of course, I will support them. The only thing I hope is that they will make a lot of effort to win their next game.
