People tend to glorify the past. I am not an exception in idealizing the past.
This post is a loose reference to the “Good old days are today” post. I wrote on the 25th of October 2018 that a lot of people live in the past, in their imagination. Honestly, I am also the one who tends to idealize the past. I believe that it happens because, during our lifetime, many negative, stressful issues that happened to us are forgettable. On the other hand, pleasant, positive things that happened to us are being slowly, constantly idealizing.
One of the good examples of how I idealize the past is connected with football.
The first big football tournament that I saw on the TV screen was a 1992 Euro Championship in Sweden. I remember that I was rapturous while watching all players playing football on the highest level. It was a time when I wanted to play football in the same way as professional players. Moreover, I remember the Polish national football team in the ’90s. I was watching their matches in the 1990s in front of the TV with a flushed face. Unfortunately, the level of the team was low. I remember when Polish players were losing in the 90’s most games with top-quality teams in qualifications to many tournaments. During the ’90s, the Polish national team has not qualified for any major football tournament.
Nevertheless, emotions in front of the TV were much stronger for me than feelings during Euro in 2016, with Lewandowski in the line-up.
It was a tournament when Poland lost in the quarterfinals with the later winner, Portugal, with a living legend, Cristiano Ronaldo. Still, I believe that every year, month, or even every single day of our life is the moment that we should genuinely appreciate (unless you do not experience any traumatic happening). Idealizing the past happens to all of us, but we cannot forget that there is always a bright future in front of our lives. The last but not least message of this post is that we should always remember that today is the best day of your life. Why? Because you are still alive.
