I’m an alligator.

June 15, 2022 by Adam Mazek

Often, while walking through the streets of Warsaw and taking pictures, the first words of David Bowie’s song “Moonage Daydream,” which is “I’m an alligator,” come to my mind.

When I hear these words in my mind, I am delighted. Why? Because it involves the sheer joy of photographing, walking, running a website, and listening to phenomenal songs such as “Moonage Daydream.” Moreover, by doing my own artistic things, I know that I somehow, more or less, refer to the artistic heritage of the British singer. The truth is that it is a moment when I take part in an eternal dialogue between artists and that I, step by step, becoming part of art’s world. I love to listen to the “Moonage Daydream” song. I have no idea why this tune did not appear on one of “The Best of Bowie” albums. Till today I cannot imagine how it is possible. While recalling the melody and strolling on the streets of Warsaw, I feel like an alligator, indeed, which diving and chasing prey.

Is that mean that I want to hurt someone? Of course not.

My prey are pictures that I take. I already compared taking photos on Warsaw’s streets to hunting. That’s why I’m an alligator of Warsaw. Back to David Bowie’s artistic legacy, I want to stress that Bowie’s songs, indeed, often echo in my mind. I love to hum his songs. “Moonage Daydream” is a song that often evokes feelings in my heart. I would say that these feelings are somehow from outer space. The truth is that I also like daydreaming.

In the same way, as David Bowie imagined himself as a Ziggy Stardust, I often envisage myself as a tourist from outer space.

I landed in Warsaw, and I am curious about the city that even the most mundane things interest me. Whether I imagine myself as an alligator or Ziggy Stardust, what I know is the fact that my name is Adam Mazek. I hope that I will become the most recognizable photographer worldwide. I hope it will happen one hundred years after my death. Why? Because being famous would disturb me in taking pictures on Warsaw’s streets.
