Today I will write about one of my favorite painters – Hieronymus Bosch. If you still haven’t seen and analyzed his artworks, I genuinely recommend you do that. A famous Dutch artist painted a lot of both magical and bizarre images. Today I will focus on “The Haywain” triptych.
Among other artists, it is Bosch who inspired not only me but the entire generations. He encouraged others to create strange, unusual, and creepy artworks. What’s interesting, there is also a “Boschian” term, which often describes fantastic artworks.
Famous Dutch master of paintings was specializing in painting inhabitants of Hell. Usually, in his artworks, those dwellers are a mixture of human, animal, and plant. Lets’ take a closer look at these famous paintings. We can see there, for example, a hooded man with branches growing out of his back. Another creepy character is a fish with human legs and arms, in the face of a mouse.
Bosh, in his artwork, presented his unique and fantastical imagination.
I suppose that his incredible imagination was inspired by, among others, his surroundings, the Bible, and his inner voice similar to dreams. I am continually looking for some creepy things (e.g., shadows, shapes, decompositions, decay) in my surroundings. When I find something, I try to present it in my photographs. I know that in photography, we will never be able to show such marvelous and bizarre creatures like in Bosh paintings. Nevertheless, for me, it is pure fun to seek such things in the modern world.
What are these strange creatures doing on “The Haywain” triptych?
Demons mentioned above are pulling the hay wain, and all the humankind with it, straight to Hell. The hay wain in itself symbolizes our life. The last thing I want is to try to entice you to go towards Hell. Nevertheless, I hope that paintings of famous Dutch painter will also inspire you to do some creepy, unordinary, “Boschian” photographs.
To summarize, I want to tell you that If you seek inspiration, I encourage you to take a closer look at other paintings of the famous Dutch master. Believe me that you will not be disappointed. Moreover, I am sure that you find a real inflow of inspiration thanks to Bosh’s paintings. Salvador Dali and Zdzislaw Beksinski were the ones who were also inspired by Bosch.
