I am inspired to write this blog post because last time I read “Dali. The Paintings” book. Robert Descharnes and Gilles Neret are the ones who wrote it. One fragment caught my attention in the book, published by Taschen.
It described Salvador Dali’s attitude to the Spanish Civil War. A famous Spanish painter conceded that he was not a historical man. Moreover, he stated that he was anti-historic and apolitical. The fact is that Dali noted that the Spanish Civil War did not change any of his ideas. Aversion and horror, for every kind of revolution, assumed in Dali’s an almost pathological form. Famous Spanish painter did not react when the war broke out.
Salvador Dali did want people to call him Dali and only Dali.
Nevertheless, the public opinion demanded of Spanish surrealist to make up his mind and to state that he is Stalinist or Hitlerite. Famous Spanish painter wrote in his biography that he was going to continue to be as always and until he dies, Dalinian and only Dalinian. He believed neither in the communist revolution nor the national-socialist revolution nor any other kind of revolution.
Dali believed only in himself.
For him, the revolutions were unusual only in one aspect: they disinter and recover fragments of the tradition that was believed to be dead because it had been forgotten. For Dali, these traditions needed the spasm of revolutionary convulsions to make them emerge once again, like Fenix from the ashes, so that they might live being reborn. Famous Spaniard painter wrote that for him, all the people of the Spanish Civil War – atheists, believers, criminals, grave-diggers, executioners, and martyrs – all fought with the unique courage and pride of the crusaders of faith.
I do not want to write about wars (maybe besides “Earth Wars“).
Nevertheless, like Salvador Dali, I would like to possess my unique style in creating art. In contrast to Dali, my tools to express myself are photography and this website. I dream that my artworks would represent my believes and thoughts in 100%. I want to describe myself, the world, and the people around me. My dream is to leave a trace for our ancestors. I want to give them details about what could think of humans living in XXI century Poland. What were my passions, and what was I afraid? The funniest thing is that I know that I will never be able to express myself in 100%. Why? For more details, click here.
