Today I will write about Instagram. The fact is that for a long time, I did not know how I wanted to publish my photographs.
Eric Kim’s blog helped me to solve this issue. Eric Kim convinced me that presenting pictures on social media does not make sense in the long term. Thus, I launched the www.adammazek.com site in September 2017. This site is my lifelong project. I aim to run it until the end of my life. Nevertheless, one year after launching the website, I decided to create an account on Instagram. Did it help me with anything?
Only partially. I’ve already written one post about social media. I wrote that I do not want to possess an account on Instagram because:
1) we do not have full control over our content (we are not the owner of the website);
2) the numbers (e.g., the number of followers) presented on Instagram, for me, are not much worth;
3) lack of time.
Did something change in my mind since writing the “Social media” post?
I should update only point number 3. For today, I possess more time because I finished my photography school in June 2018. In general, points 1) and 2) are still actual.
So why did I create my artistic profile on social media? Probably because I have a little bit more time to manage it. Did I find it passionate? Running this website is much more enjoyable and challenging. But, I noticed that Instagram helped me in one of the things. Thanks to titled social media, I can lay all my cards on the table. I treat Instagram as some extension of my online gallery, which you can find here. The fact is that most people prefer to watch pictures on their smartphones.
By creating an online gallery on Instagram, I helped them to see the essence of my photographs.
The fact is that even if Instagram will change something in their policy dramatically, and if I had to disable my account there, I won’t cry. Social media is merely an addition to my passion. My website is and undoubtedly will be the essence of presenting my artistic skills on the Internet. Social media is just a supplement for it.
