Why do I write in English instead of my native language – Polish?
The answer is simple. I want to reach as many viewers and readers as possible. I do not want to wait that maybe someday someone will translate my texts into English. The fact is that the Polish language is hard to learn. It is not a popular language worldwide. In general, Polish speech is used mainly by Poles. Estimations say that there are from 44 to 48 million people all over the world who use Polish on their daily basis. It means that if I were writing in Polish, my audience would be automatically limited to this number.
On the other hand, Professor David Crystal stated in the book “English Worldwide” that there were ~400 million people who used English as a mother tongue. Moreover, the Professor wrote that there were ~400 million additional people who used English as a second language. What is more interesting, in 2006, there were around 600 – 700 million people who did not use English daily. But, they could communicate in this language as foreign language speakers.
To sum up all these numbers, we get almost 1.5 billion people that could communicate in English.
Those figures are more than ten years old, so we can assume that today these numbers increased.
Now I hope that you know why I am writing in English. I do not want to limit myself to ~50 million people. What I want is that my message will reach directly as many people as possible. I do not exclude the possibility that I will start to manage my website in two languages simultaneously. Nevertheless, I think that it will happen in the distant future. For today, I do not have enough time to run my blog in this way. It would take away too much time and energy. That is why I run this blog from the very beginning only in English.
In conclusion, I want to encourage you, my Dear Friend (no matter where you live and what language you use daily), to learn English. It will make your life easier. It will bring you new possibilities which can come across to you, no matter which part of the world you live in.
