One of the most significant development skills is learning from mistakes. However, it is only half of the success of learning from your own mistakes.
First of all, I mean that the real level of “Master” regarding life skills is the ability to learn and draw conclusions based on someone else’s mistakes. Not yours. I always try to learn from other people’s errors, and then, on my own. The fact that I try to do it does not mean that it always comes out to me. It is a challenging part of self-development. Learning from other’s mistakes requires a lot of effort, good memory, wisdom, analyzing skills, and the ability to anticipate many things.
Can I give you some examples of learning from others’ mistakes? Yes, of course.
First of all, my parents gave me a lot of wisdom, knowledge, and tips throughout my life. In 99% of the cases, they were right. If I were genuinely bright, I would avoid many problems in my life if I would listen to their hints. They often gave, and still give me many examples from their lives, of what mistakes other people did and what mistakes I can avoid, thanks to their knowledge.
I believe that it is a good occasion to say “Thank you,” my beloved Mum and Dad, for everything you did for me during my whole life. Thanks to both of you, I am who I am.
Another example of learning from other’s mistakes is connected with running this blog. Since October 2015, I had been making a lot of photographs without publishing them. I did not know how I want to present my pictures. Both Facebook and Instagram were not the places where I wanted to show my photos. And suddenly, I found Eric Kim’s blog. In this blog, I read that the best thing we could do, as photographers, is to possess our own platform. Eric Kim had 100k followers on Instagram, but he had deleted his account because, speaking shortly, he was not satisfied with his photographic journey on Instagram.
Moreover, he realized that the number of likes is not the most crucial thing in our lives.
Also, he realized that we, as humans, will never be fully satisfied by the number of likes on Facebook and Instagram. I merely listened to Eric Kim. I created this website, and I started to publish my texts and photos here. One year after launching the site, I added my profile on Instagram, but I know that I will treat it as a supplement to this website.
Another example of learning from other people’s mistakes is strictly connected with death.
When people are dying, they often regret not focusing enough on their passions during their lifetime. I do not want to make such a mistake. I try to realize my hobby practically every day.
In conclusion, I want to write that we should always try to learn from others’ mistakes. I know it is a tough thing to do, but we should merely do it.
