Leaving home.

In today’s post, I won’t describe my case of leaving home in 2004 when I moved from Brok to Warsaw to study.

Today, I want to let my imagination run free and imagine how the forced escape from Earth would look like. Indeed, I already wrote about it in “The Last Rescue” post. Sometimes I rock in the clouds. While doing it, I try to imagine what would be such a feeling like first interstellar travelers would see an Earth becoming lost out of their sight while taking the first (perhaps, last?) interstellar flight. About what would they think while seeing Earth for the last time? I would compare this feeling to our hominid ancestors’ feelings, who traveled on bamboo rafts far enough by sea that their homeland became lost to the horizon a few kilometers behind them.

In his remarkable “2001: A Space Odyssey” movie, Stanley Kubrick already connected in one masterpiece two similar plots. The first one provided insights into how our hominid ancestors started to act like humans. In a visionary and imaginative direction, the second plot presents humankinds’ conquest of the cosmos. In this text, I want to introduce a similar movie concept, described as the “Inspired by Kubrick” theme. I would name the film “Leaving home.”

What would be the plot of it?

It would start in the primordial times when the tribe of hominids sees on their homeland’s shore islands or lands on the distant horizon. One day, one of the members of the tribe would quite accidentally discover how to surf on waves. Later, as a process of surfing would last, they would construct primitive bamboo rafts to sail to those islands. Due to some catastrophic event (e.g., fire or famine), they would have to escape from their land and move somewhere else. This part of the movie ends while the main hero observes a disappearing fatherland.

Another aspect of the film would take place in the far future. Due to ecological catastrophe, living on planet Earth is becoming impossible. Only a few people would escape from Earth into an interstellar voyage out of the Solar System. The end of the movie would look like the main hero would observe Earth as a pale blue dot in the dark nooks of the Universe. The end of living on Earth would mean the new colonization of Alpha Centauri. Enough writing for today. I’m leaving home to do street photography.
