I do not know how this happened, but I never wrote here, on my blog, about my favorite football team, named Legia Warsaw.
I started supporting Legionaries in 1995 when this remarkable team played in one of the first editions of the Champions League. In the group stage, the champion of Poland eliminated both the best teams from England and Norway. Legia Warsaw reached the quarter-finals when we lost against Panathinaikos Athens, the champion of Greece. It was a time when I was 10-11 years old. I still remember how much joy The Militarians brought to my heart.
On the first match at the Lazienkowska 3 street, I was in 1998.
I remember that The Militarians won 3:0 against Petrochemia Plock. Since that time, for me, the Legia’s stadium has been a beating heart and the center of the capital of Poland. The atmosphere of the Legia’s stadium (named The Marshall Józef PiÅ‚sudski’s Municipal Stadium of Legia Warsaw) is one of the most magical impressions people can experience. I was regularly attending Legia matches between 1998 – 2005. I was also in some other cities when I supported Legia.
On the other hand, I was also in some European cities to support the best football club in Poland.
I was in the towns like Zurich, Wien, Vilniaus. Why do I know that Legia Warsaw was the best football club in Poland? Because we are in first place in the all-time Polish league table. Moreover, Legia also has the most number of League won. How many titles does Legia have? Officially Legia was a champion of Poland 14 times. Still, for supporters, we have 15 titles because, in 1993, the Polish Football Association took away the champion title. I wrote this post on the 6th of April, 2021. Luckily, it seems that Legionaries is on the straight way to becoming the official champion of Poland for the 15th time.*
* I published this text on the 26th of February, 2022. My favorite football club indeed became the Polish champion in 2021, for the 15th time. In February 2022, for the first time since the beginning of the ’90s, Legia can be relegated to the lower division.
