Sometimes I try to imagine a life without cell phones.
Ups, sorry, I forgot. I do not have to imagine it. The fact is that I lived in the fabulous ’90s in Poland. It was a time when 99% of the population did not possess cell phones. In one of my previous posts, I already wrote that I lived during the ’90s in a Polish town named Malkinia Gorna. For me, it was a truly magical time and place. Even if the city was rather grey and mundane (the same as my pictures), my memories connected with this location are very positive. I believe that it happened mainly thanks to my beloved parents with whom I lived in Malkinia Gorna. Moreover, I still have many friends from my hometown, whom I memorize at all the best.
Another factor that I suppose is connected with the happiness of good, old days is that we lived without cell phones.
When I think of past times, I believe that peoples’ lives without cell phones, smartphones, iPhones, etc., were more straightforward. I know that it sounds controversial, but I believe that the more we are engaged in many applications on our smartphones, the dumber we become. A lot of applications help with many things. Sometimes I feel that applications think instead of me. As an example, I gave you, my Dear Friend, an example of the Grammarly app. Thanks to this application, my English probably improved. Why I have doubts about it?
Often, when I write, I know that I make a mistake, but I consciously omit it because I know that Grammarly will correct my error.
Thus, I think that I do not develop my skills. A similar case we can find, for example, in the Google Maps application. Thanks to this app, we cannot be lost in the city. Still, it prevents us from thinking and analyzing our surroundings. Cell phones, smartphones, and applications, in general, improved our lives. Still, I do believe that if we use all these pieces of equipment and software without too much thinking, we will regress our intelligence in the long term.
