Rush’s song “Limelight” inspired me to write this post. The sooner we realize that life is a stage where everyone is an actor, the sooner we’ll discover that we should not treat our lives so seriously.
Every one of us possesses many masks. We often put on some masks to pretend to play a particular role in the theatre play called “Life.” We often act to become a successful person. Being a celebrity often forces famous people to behave like someone who they are not like. Living in the limelight is something where most of us would like to be. We are like moths, who want to get as close to the spotlight, as possible.
Nevertheless, moths do not know that limelight can burn them. Fame, money, or even power is something that most of us would like to possess to live a comfortable life. We all maintain hidden masks that we put on to pretend someone who we are not.
Am I an exception? No. I think that there are no exceptions. We all have to adjust, more or less, our life to broadly defined social expectations.
Is working in the limelight the aim of my artistic activity? No. I already wrote that I do not want to become famous during my lifetime. Undoubtedly, a universal recognition would not help me during my walking with the camera in my hand, through the streets of Warsaw. Last but not least is the fact that we all should remember that we will die. Whatever we do in our life, we will end this earthly existence. Thus, we should not treat this life so seriously as most of us do. Let us focus not on stage in the limelight, but to give ourselves to others. Inspiring by art creating is my ultimate goal.
Nevertheless, I do not expect any gratification for all my artistic doings. What I want is to get hide from the limelight and focus on my beloved ones and my hobby until the end of my life.
