During the summer of 2022, we won’t travel to Lithuania.
Is that mean that we (Kamilka and I) are afraid of the Russian-Belorussian attack on Lithuania or the so-called „The Suwalki Gap” (border between Poland and Lithuania)? No. We planned to go to the Lithuanian Palanga in August 2022. Still, because I will change my job during this period, we had to cancel the reservation. I wrote this text on the 29th of June, 2022. It was a day when I realized we were on vacation one year earlier in the capital of another Baltic state, the Latvian Riga. For us, the Baltic states have many advantages regarding traveling in summer. The days are not as hot as in Poland, and they are longer. I do not have to mention that one can continuously swim in the Baltic Sea in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Scandinavian countries are colder. Still, they are more expensive than the Baltic states.
Another advantage of the Baltics is that one can quickly go to Lithuania, Latvia, or Estonia by car.
Regarding photography, the Baltic states are an attractive destination for me. In general, I would say that all post-communist countries would be good places for me to photograph. I wrote that I would like to photograph mundane cities of Central-Eastern Europe in one of my first posts in 2017. Undoubtedly, I have many places to photograph in Baltics, including the Lithuanian Palanga (with the nearby Klaipeda – the major Lithuanian seaport), Kaunas, and Siauliai. In Latvia, I can visit cities like Jelgava or Liepaja. We still haven’t been to Estonia, where Tallinn is also an attractive city for my visual explorations. The fact that we won’t visit Palanga and Klaipeda in 2022 does not mean we won’t see these places in the following years.
Why haven’t I mentioned Vilnius in this text?
It is because I was there twice within the last few years. In this post, I present my pictures taken in the capital of Lithuania in 2016. I regret that I probably won’t visit Ukraine and Russia within the next few years. The reason is apparent. The war in Ukraine prevents me from going to these countries.
