I truly admire all the people who succeeded in making something from nothing. I want to follow their traces and do the same.
As one of the examples regarding creating something from nothing is writing (e.g., the stories). For me, it is just unbelievable that by possessing only the power of thought and imagination, writers can make something (e.g., story, novel, and book as a final product) from nothing. Of course, for me, the highest level of such creative powers possessed Fyodor Dostoyevski and Stanislaw Lem. Luckily, many other genius writers achieved success similarly. Nevertheless, a book is a perfect example of how people can create new, astonishing things, only with their power of the brain and imagination.
Another example of making something from nothing came to my mind. It happened thanks to Norman Mailer’s book “Moonfire” (Taschen).
This book tells us a story about landing man on the moon. It made me realize that today there is more computing power in the average fridge than in the machines that managed to take the astronauts up in Apollo 11, straight to the moon. I write this post on a computer about which NASA scientists would have begged. Of course, we are talking about the ’60s and early ’70s. Moreover, as Norman Mailer wrote:
The software that scientists used back then would be considered Neanderthal in times of Xbox.
But they did it. American scientists succeeded.
Indeed, they practically made something (sending astronauts back and forth to the moon) from nothing. All these examples are truly inspirations for me. I want to do the same. I want to create big things with a minimal amount of tools. All the tools which I possess are my imagination, eye, and camera. Also, I need a minor amount of money to pay for the website and access the Internet. Of course, I also have legs, thanks to which I can walk through the streets of Warsaw. While doing that, I make pictures and contemplate many issues — the fruits of all these things you can see here on this website.
