I suppose that we are all aware of David Bowie’s artistic legacy.
I have heard some of his songs during my whole life quite often. To give you some of the examples: “China Girl,” “Let’s Dance,” “The Man who sold the world,” “Space Oddity,” or “Under pressure.” These are the songs which we could easily hear on the radio stations all over the world. In the second part of 2016 (that is when I was 31 years old!) Youtube suggested me one of his early ’70 song: “Life on Mars?”.
In the beginning, I turned on this song without watching a music video. I was listening to only the music.
What was my amazement when I heard this song! David Bowie’s music affected me. It moved me to the undiscovered part of imagination.
It opened some new dimensions in my creativity.
I had the same feelings while reading Dostoyevsky’s and Lem’s books. The same with Hieronymus Bosh’s, Salvador Dali’s, or Zdzislaw Beksinski’s paintings. When I heard “Life on Mars?” I knew that I re-discovered Bowie’s genius once again for myself. Only masterpieces of great artists can induce such marvelous feelings.
When I listened to this song, I knew that I must dig deeper into David Bowie’s artistic legacy.
But, before I did that, I wanted to see also the music video recorded for the title song. The fact is that after watching the music video, I was struck once again by this masterpiece. I saw and heard the genius for the second time, within a few minutes. I was shocked at how listening to the same song (with and without a music video) can be so diverse. Both versions of the song (with and without vision) are much-respected work of art for me.
If you did not hear this song, I recommend you to listen to only the music at the beginning, and later, with the music video version.
I am curious if your feelings will be similar to mine. My dream is to produce (by creating pictures) the same feelings and emotions as David Bowie did by his songs. I want to astonish, empower, and inspire others, as David did. For me, he proved that he was already one of the best singers of all the time during his early part of the career. He showed it, not only by this song but also others – to give you one of the examples: “The space oddity” song.
I believe in myself, and I think that I will accomplish this challenging task.
But the chances that I will manage to do that are equal to the possibility that there is life on Mars.
