Everyone possesses its fears. I am not an exception. One of my worst concerns is to become homeless. Also, I am afraid of becoming treated as someone rejected by society, like Miroslav Tichy.
Today, I will write about someone who fulfills the issues mentioned above. Nevertheless, the artist’s works became very appreciated. Miroslav Tichy (1926-2011), the Czech artist, was a well-regarded both painter and photographer. He has had his artworks shown around the world. This artist was so characteristic in his creative process that it is necessary to pay tribute to him. Simultaneously I want to stress that his story makes me scared a little bit.
Even though Tichy was studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, he gave up his studies.
It all happened when the communists started to rule Czechoslovakia. He resigned because his views were not in line with the political opinion of the government. In the 60s of the XX century, Tichy began to disregard his appearance. He started to wear a ragged suit and let his unkempt hair and beard grow long. Tichy became a misfit. That was the time when he decided to wander around town with a defective, homemade camera. His aim was to take surveillance photographs of local women.
Tichy became a Czech peeping tom.
He had been continually doing it until 1985. In most cases, women were not conscious that someone had photographed them. What’s most exciting, the quality of Tichy’s images leaves a lot to be desired. These photos would hardly have featured in any self-respecting amateur photographer’s family album.
Tichy’s history is both frightening and inspiring for me. The story is terrifying because I do not want to become the misfit person for society. Moreover, I do not want to look like a homeless. Taking care of our health, both mental and physical, is one of the most crucial things we should do. We ought to do it, not only for ourselves but also for the whole society.
On the other side, Tichy’s story also brings a lot of joy and hope for me.
It shows that we could honestly do what we love, even if we are at the lowest level of society. I believe that if we stick to something, we can do it continually until the end of our life. Even if we hit bottom, regarding the social issues, we still can create and deal with all the artistic doings which we love to do. Miroslav Tichy is an example of how to remain creative for the rest the life, regardless of the social status of the human.
