I already compared photographing to fishing and hunting in my previous posts. Today I want to compare taking photos on the streets to mushroom picking.
Probably most people love to walk in the forest. Spending leisure time in the woods, communing with nature, and enjoying the forest’s smell is one of the most relaxing activities that people can experience. In other posts, I mentioned that I possess two hometowns: Brok and Malkinia Gorna. Both towns are ideal places for mushroom picking. The fact is that Brok is surrounded by the White Forest (“Puszcza Biala”) from the north, and the truth is that people can walk through the wood for many hours and probably even days.
Moreover, the fact is that many people walk in the woods and pick mushrooms.
Some do it because they love to eat fresh mushrooms from the forest. Others do it for some commercial purposes, and others for relaxation. Without a doubt, walking in the woods and doing sit-ups to take a mushroom is a healthy activity. It is the same with street photography. While taking street photos, I walk in the concrete jungle. Still, the truth is that when I take amazing pictures on the walk, I have a similar feeling to find a big, healthy penny bun (“Boletus edulis”). Do I like to eat fungi? I prefer many other dishes. Still, mushroom picking is a very relaxing activity. In contrast to taking photos in the city, we can breathe fresh, healthy air straight out of the woods while picking mushrooms.
When I am in Warsaw, I often miss collective walking with my parents through the White Forest. Do we always pick fungi while walking in the forest? No. We usually walk and talk. Undoubtedly, it is a moment when I am the happiest person in the world. Thank you, Mum and Dad, not only for all collective walks in Malkinia Gorna and Brok but also for the love you gave me.
