During the pandemic of coronavirus, people in Poland were supposed to buy only necessities.
What were the necessities given by the Polish government as an example? These were food, hygiene measures, or medicaments. I fully agree that these three groups of things that people must buy to survive the pandemic were necessities. While shopping in grocery stores during the epidemic, I noticed that for some people also the alcohol (e.g., beer or vodka) were necessities. I did not argue with them. If they thought that they will not survive without drinking alcohol, it is their way of handling the issue named “coronavirus.”
Nevertheless, what I want to stress in this post is the fact that, for me, necessities are also books.
As for the day when I wrote this post, that is on the 13th of April 2020, I did not have to be locked in my house, in quarantine. I hope that I will not have to do that. Whenever I think about the lockdown at my home, I think of books. I know that thanks to them, I will not be bored. I have so many books to read that I would use the quarantine to be able to learn as much as possible. Still, I want to stress that I do not want to be in quarantine. What I know is the fact that books, both during “normal” times and during the pandemic, are the cure for my mind, heart, and soul.
Books are like fresh air that comes into my imagination, penetrates it, and drills new connections between my neurons. I cannot imagine life without reading.
I would quickly become stupefied without reading, analyzing, and learning books. Undoubtedly, I will repeat until the end of my life that it is worth to read and learn new things. We do not have to wait to be in quarantine to start reading. For me, books are the 4th part of necessities from the ones included at the beginning of this post.
