Numbers are both our savior and the curse (e.g., the lust for money).
When can numbers be our savior? E.g., in broadly understood technological advances. Without mathematics, our civilization would not develop as much as it had already done it. Numbers are crucial, often in an abstract way, the main component of almost everything. Without digits, the broadly defined science would not grow as much as possible. Numbers are everywhere. For example, the fundaments of our technology are made of figures. Without mathematics, we still probably would be on the level of cave dwellers.
So why numbers can also be our curse?
Let me explain to you, my Dear Friend. Most of the people think about money almost all the time. Numbers are an integral and essential part of finance. Often, we are slaves of this part of mathematics. Indeed, the lust for money is a curse for all humanity since money became an integral part of economics. Is that mean that earning money is evil? Of course not. There is nothing wrong with becoming wealthier.
So why numbers can also be our curse? Nevertheless, we mustn’t forget that earning money should not be the aim of our life. Â
Regarding my photography, I sometimes notice that numbers can also trap me. How? While taking photographs on the streets of Warsaw, I sometimes (luckily not always!) analyze how many pictures I already made. At the beginning of my artistic journey, I was glad when I made one hundred images per one photo-walk. But, then I realized that it is not the numbers of photographs that counts, but their quality. I merely noticed that there walkings, during which I made less than one hundred images. But their quality sometimes was better than on the pictures which I made during the walk which ended with one hundred and fifty photographs.
I convinced myself that I could not focus too much on the numbers of images which I made, because it was nonsense.
To summarize up, I encourage you, my Dear Friend, to watch and analyze the numbers which surround you. But, remember not to become the slave of them. Digits should help us and be our savior, not our curse.
